THE OPPORTUNITY
Our client is seeking a strategic, operationally oriented, and hands-on Chief Operating Officer (COO) who will serve on the Executive Leadership Team. They will influence the development and execution of the Company’s strategic vision. The successful candidate will be accountable for the day-to-day safety, financial, and operational performance of the company. They will maintain a high standard of service delivery, and quality, and drive continuous improvement. To do so, they must be an exceptional leader who can build, inspire, and develop a team that will outperform.
The COO will set the company’s workflow strategy and the organization of all essential, business processes to achieve company business objectives and demonstrate the agility required to maintain operational excellence during a period of organic expansion and impactful M&A activity.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Performance
- Partners closely with the executive team and location management teams to define and implement operational processes, procedures, and initiatives to drive company growth and continuous improvements.
- Works with the executive team to set annual and quarterly company performance goals.
- Accountable for all aspects of business operations, including manufacturing, supply chain, facilities management, and acquisition integration.
- Enhances cross-functional alignment and business outcomes through leadership of disciplined sales, inventory, and operations planning.
- Cultivates and provides opportunities for rising talent within the organization.
- Drives constant operational improvement through regular oversight of and reporting on operational activities and specific initiatives that bring new capabilities, infrastructure, and/or practices to the company.
- Identifies best practices and improves internal systems with an eye toward future needs and budget realities.
- Reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis the P&L variances related to operating activities and other key performance indicators (KPI’s) related to Operations.
Financial
- Works closely with the Chief Executive Officer and Controller on all matters related to the business's operations.
- Participate in the annual budget preparation.
- Responsible for capital planning and expenditures.
Integration
- Supports future integration of companies acquired by/merged into the company.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervises/manages/directs the selection, training, development, appraisal, and work assignments.
- Ensures that management and other employees understand and own the operating objectives and performance standards.
- Performs employee reviews and develops corrective action plans if needed.
- Motivates and leads a high-performance management team; recruits, attracts, and retains members of the management team.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in business or related field.
- 10 + years of progressive experience and demonstrable track record of success in Operations in the aggregate mining or related sector.
- 5+ years of management experience.
- Track record of successful strategic plan development and execution.
- Outstanding analytical skills and judgment. Can gather information, develop models, weigh relevant factors, and make decisions based on data, trends, and past experience.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Asks for and offers help when needed.
- Experience leading manufacturing, sales, and general business operations.
- Ability to resolve difficult challenges and issues.
- Ability to be confidential.
