About the Role
As a Mud Engineer, you will play a critical role in drilling operations by managing and optimizing drilling fluid systems. You will conduct testing, analyze fluid performance, and provide technical recommendations to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective drilling operations. This role requires close collaboration with rig personnel and adherence to strict safety and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide onsite well support by measuring, testing, and supervising fluid mixing and pumping operations
- Perform technical analysis and make recommendations to control and optimize fluid properties
- Conduct and interpret routine and specialized fluid testing
- Monitor and manage fluid-related costs and inventory at the rig site
- Operate, maintain, and optimize testing, separation, and waste management equipment
- Collaborate with drilling teams, supervisors, and technical professionals
- Maintain strong working relationships with client representatives and rig personnel
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations
- Train, mentor, and support junior or entry-level engineers
- Occasionally support field-level sales efforts alongside sales representatives
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Bachelor's degree in STEM or a related field (preferred)
- Completion of an industry-recognized mud engineering training program
- Minimum of 6 months of related field experience
- Strong understanding of:
- Fluids chemistry
- Hydraulics and volume calculations
- Separation and waste management technologies
- Ability to work in demanding field environments and rotational schedules
